Check out Agnes Mae!

I love it! Were you in on the Bright Street baby name discussion recently? C-dub brought up Agnes, and I had just the day before developed a crush on that name, as pronounced by the French, after having watched a foreign film from the library. Since then, I've been coming to realize that I even adore it with a bland American accent. It's funny how tastes can change. The same thing happened with the name Henry a couple years ago—I went from dislike to luv in nothing flat. It's like when I was a kid and I changed practically overnight from gagging over avocados and mushrooms to being unable to live without them.

What this is all leading up to is just a teeny-einy link to hopefully brighten your day, as it did mine. A nice person named Phoebe just came out of lurk mode to leave me a thoughtful comment. I went to visit her blog, and lo and behold, there was a baby Agnes! Not only an Agnes, but an Agnes Mae! Mae is one of my adored names of choice, a family name, always on The List. Don't know if I'll ever get to use it, but I love it.

Anyway. If you haven't met Phoebe or Agnes Mae, you oughta go and do. I've got a fresh crush on a girl with a strawberry on her swaddled bum.

So funny! Thanks for the compliments.
And we have a son named Henry. We must both have excellent taste.

That's Cool!
My Gram's name is Mae, it's a favorite. Glad I got to use it. Hope you do too.

I love the name Henry, and Charles. Sadly, if I use anymore of those names it's going to be like the House of Windsor came to stay at my place.

If you haven't seen this super fun name site, then you're missing out. Just type in any name, or variation, to track the popularity since the 1880s.

I love those names! I got to use Mae also and I LOVE it! Love the name voyager too!

I have a son named Henry, too! And one of my dearest friends is an Agnes (she's Polish, so it's actually Agniezska -- or something consonant-laden like that.) Anyhow, I feel like I fit in at this name party...yay!
Thanks for the link over to Phoebe's blog--charming.

b.: Two of my aunts, from different parts of my family, were named Mae: Nannie Mae and Lida Mae. (Can you tell I'm from the South?) I like every spelling of the name, but Mae's my fave.

azucar: That site is addictive! I found out that Agnes was actually used as a boy's name between 1890 and 1910. Too bad Johnny Cash wasn't around then to write a song about it.

ash: I had no idea Mae was so popular!

Back in the 90s when I had my "Sophie experience," I wouldn't have guessed that by the time I actually got to use the name it would have gained so much popularity. It's funny how names cycle in and out of fashion.

"Voyager"? Yeah, that is kinda cool.

emily: I think this modern crop of Henrys will someday take over the world. We could sure do worse than be run by Henrys.

"Agniezska" is terrific!

What fun! A cute little Agnes Mae. I also think Henry is cool. One of my friends has a boy named Henry. Gotta love a rejuvenated classic! With a name like one of these, your little one won't likely have to go by First Name, Last Initial in school or activities. :)

rynell: You and I never had to rely on last initials, eh?

Henry is my FAVE, FAVE name for a boy. I'm hoping we will have a Henry toddling around our house in the near future... It's hard to find names that fit with Verbecky (my last name)

and i love mae, so cute, so brewtiful, perfect for a tender little baby girl

Henry Verbecky—he's bound to be famous one day with a name like that. A writer, maybe? Or a journalist? A photographer? Perhaps a politician (non-corrupt). Good luck getting him here, Kalli!

I know, it has a nice ring to it doesn't it??

Thanks for your good wishes, we are needing them.

Cheers to you and your peanut.

That does sound cute! Isn't it funny how your taste does change? I remember loving the name Christian when I was younger--I was convinced that I would name my little boy that, but now it is not a favorite... Anyways, I like how the name is original. You don't hear that every day!

I clicked over here from Phoebe's. Just wanted to add my recommendation to the Baby Name Wizards fans':

Nymbler

It's also by Laura Wattenberg, aka the Baby Name Wizard. I also have her book, I swear I'm not obsessed or anything...

and congrats on your little bean.

christa: When I was small and very shy, so shy that I hated my attention-getting name, I wished I was a Gloria. Now I'm really grateful to be a Georgia. Even though I don't have anybody's legs to hide behind.

andi: "Favorite" is great! I wonder if she got special treatment? "Zina" has become one that I love. I'd raelly like to hear the ins and outs of your epic baby-naming story someday.

eliza: Welcome! Wow, Nymbler could keep me occupied for days. Thanks for dropping in!

Four years ago I gave myself a middle name . . . came from nowhere, or somewhere, but I knew it was mine - the one my parents didn't give me. . .haven't added it to my birth certifcate yet . . .
