Artifact: Travel postcard chronicling one leg of a genealogical/thrill-seeking expedition to Europe, sent by an American matriarch with a Scottish temperament to her nuclear family, circa summer 1978.
"Hot--106ยบ Miserable extremely expensive our U.S. $ is down to 30¢ now. We're hoping we can hold out until the 30th. Have been sick with the running vomits. Oh these Italians no water, de la hot chili foods & screw you out of your wig if they could. I'm buying fruit, pealing it & living on fruit & hard rolls. Soon Switzerland Yeah! Love, Mom"

That is so great! Hialrious. I collect postcards, you know, so if you find some in a thrift store or just want to send me one from home, I'll be thankful! ;)
Hoobickie, I heard that.

James: I will keep you in mind when I follow in the grand matriarch's footsteps and go a-travelling. : )
That made me want to throw up a little.
Are you related to these people? My hubby was born, and has some family still there, in Moses Lake. Not IN the actual body of water but in the town hospital.
i.s.f.: I understand your dry heaves, I do. The author of the postcard was none other than my paternal granny. Proud am I! I must say though that I believe I could do a more thorough job of enjoying Italy if I ever had the great fortune to go there.
So, you have a link to ML too! I was there last summer for said granny's funeral. Our family no longer lives in the area, but still knows folks there. Hey, did your hubby happen to know Neal LaBute?
I have tried half a dozen times to read that postcard and I can't make it out. Would someone transcribe it? If they dare?
Be careful what you ask for . . . you just might get it. See updated post.
Teehee!
