When the levee breaks
Today I laid a debt to rest. I made the very last payment toward the major surgery I underwent a few years ago. It's over, it's over, it's over now—every stitch, every dollar, every cold and demanding statement. What a great relief to finally have done with it all. I was surprised by difficult emotion that washed through me after the money was handed off, though I didn't have to look far to discover its source; that debt was all tied up in my womb. Today the levee broke and I got pretty wet, but now I'm moving on and drying out in the process. It's a springtime watershed. Who knows but what this hasn't begun clearing the way for new life within me, even if it's just my own resurrection occurring in tandem with a beautiful season.
We are now debt-free, except for house payments! Yeah! It's about time we made it to higher ground.

Bless you. And Yay! for spring, renewal of any sort, and higher ground.
Today I'm a yellow crocus. Thanks, ladies!
Congrats Geo! YAY for the springtime watershed! Is that how it feels to be debt free? Niccccce. (Gotta get me some of that.)
Congrats!
Oooh that must feel good! Congratulations :)
Thanks and thanks! Yep, I'm made of money now, and to prove it I went to the thrift store today and bought myself a small vintage travelling bag to "match" my other one, and a "new" ten-buck dress! (Those inflated D..I. prices, I just don't know . . . .) Spendy, spendy!
P.S. GRITTY. It feels like clean air and green seedlings, being out of debt. I highly recommend it.
Georgia, yay for you! And I love that shopping spree you went on! We were debt-free (besides mortgage) until Bubby broke his arm! But that won't take long to pay off. Rich wants to buy a Prius now (he was looking for a '97 Land Cruiser, but when gas went over $3/gal, he changed his mind). I suppose we could afford a car loan now, but it's been SO NICE not to have one for two years! I am so grateful for prophets to teach us the ways to true joy. Being out of debt certainly lightens the load. Happy spring to you, love.
Beautifully expressed. Geo, I just love ya!
Congratulations and Blessings!!
(btw, great youtube.)
You should call Dave Ramsey! Do you follow him? Check out his web site... daveramsey.com. He has a radio show that streams online. He hates debt and it's all scriptural. We, too, are debt free but for the house and it certainly is freeing. It changes your perspective on things.
Well if you got yourself a travel bag and a new ten dollar dress, that can only mean one thing ... ADVENTURE.
(Oh, if wishes were fishes ...)
JAMES. Getting out of debt is actually MORE addictive than getting into debt, in my case. I don't want to buy anything on credit (or have more expensive surgeries) ever, ever again. Except, of course, where it's necessary for ease of shipping, etc.
I am turning into my grandpa where money is concerned. Pay as you go. And save, save, save. This is a good thing.
DEEP. (I like that nickname for your nickname better than the other. Suits you.) Thanks!
Don't you think Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are deadly good together?
ECLECTIC. No, I've not listened to Dave Ramsey, though I have heard his name on occasion. Maybe I'll have to check him out. We paid off all our debts some time ago, except for this whopper of a hospital bill, and it felt marvelous even then. This is definitely the icing on the cake. Debt, I am crushing your head!
ANDI. You said it. I feel dangerous. I think I'll hop a train.
I love your way of expressing things....just simply beautiful!
Congrats on being free of that dead horse.
B. Are you feeling better? Let's celebrate.
Congrats! I can't imagine how great it is to be in your shoes right now. I hope to be debt-free one day - lots of school loans. Thanks for sharing your joy.
