February 17 (presents)

Tonight we celebrated my nephew Soren's birthday. It's always so funny to me the way children are so fascinated by gifts being opened, and often feel compelled to "help" the recipient with the unwrapping process. I guess it isn't just kids who do that though; I actually do know adults who can't keep their fingers totally to themselves when the bows are coming off. Why is that? Why are we hypnotized when other people get stuff? And why is there often so much anxiety, etc. on the line when gift-giving is happening?

I don't know why this is. Maybe we all secretly love getting gifts...? I missed this unwrapping business at the house the past weekend.
